Investing in SDN Blogging
Many of my colleagues and friends that work in and around SAP solutions enjoy reading other people’s blog postings, but have never contributed a blog article themselves. Often they say they either don’t have the time, or are uncomfortable writing for public consumption. Several of my friends that have published blog articles on SDN took literally 2-4 weeks to write one article as they wanted it perfect before publication. They misunderstood the purpose of blogs.
Blogging on SDN takes time, but it does not have to be perfect. Blogs are the sharing of ideas and experiences in real time. These are your ideas and experiences. I don’t think I have ever re-read a blog article I wrote in the past without wanting to edit it again (what was I thinking?). This is a dynamic media where the free flowing stream of ideas and experiences can be shared. Sometimes you may even change your mind about a subject, perfect! Write another blog article explaining why your ideas have changed!
Blogging on SDN is about sharing. It is about community learning and the distribution of ideas and best practices across a community with a shared interest. I often have emails and comments sent to me after posting a blog. These are from readers offering personal experiences, asking questions or even, can you believe it, disagreeing. Wonderful! That is how learning and progress happens. If along the path you can build your personal reputation as a subject matter expert, then even better.
I write on SAP Netweaver, EDI and B2B business processes and strategies. I have posted over 50 articles on these subjects in the last 12 months that can be found by searching on my profile or the words EDI and B2B. These articles are posted in real-time, but also have longevity. My experiences are archived for others that want to learn in the future. Blogging on SDN is helping create a knowledge base of experiences, an intellectual asset that the entire SAP community can share.
I encourage you to share your experiences, ideas and strategies with the SDN community!
